Integrated Community Based Childcare Center

This project introduces a scalable and sustainable model for outdoor play spaces in integrated community-based childcare centers across Bangladesh (ICBC Bangladesh). The objective was to desing a series of prototype play apparatuses that supports children’s development through a connection to nature, while remaining accessible and replicable. By utilizing readily available, low-cost local and recycled materials, the design prioritizes affordability and ease of construction for community members. A key component of this project was co-creation; working directly with the community and children in every step, from design to construction, fostered a strong sense of ownership and pride.
The design features a central, multi-functional play apparatus that was co-designed with children, incorporating elements like a swing, ladder, and hanging features. The space is further enriched with a dedicated running path, a sand and water corner, tire horses, and log-hops, providing a variety of sensory and physical experiences.
